Renovation Going On...

We started renovating the house today

We had the roof and walls painted and plan to put more shelves in the kitchen for additional storage.

We couldn't get the kids to stop playing with the sand.

The hardware truck driver said the fine sand used for finishing came from Pagsanhan falls. If that's the case, I wonder how deep the river is right now with all the quarrying :(

Our Humble Little Store

It's been 18 days since I moved here in Paete and I haven't even shared a picture of my new home.

Well, I do have my reasons, one of it is because the place was not that presentable when I first came here. It used to be that the only residents in this house were my husband Cy and his younger brother Berg, thus, the house was in total chaos! When I first came here, I didn't even know where to start cleaning! (Cy, you could have at least swept the floors! -__-)

The store is named after my in-laws Nelly and Amado or 'Ding' Carolino. This is where daddy Ding's maternal grandparents, the old Afungol's used to live. When they bought the land from their uncle, the house was literally falling apart. Today, the 'silong' or ground floor is converted into a store with the living quarters on the second floor. They plan to renovate some parts of the second floor for us this month and make a separate room for Berg.

This is the first display cabinet I cleaned out when I came here, since the Monaco thread (used for crocheting) were so dusty that the pink thread was color gray and the navy blue ones were turning white -__-

Our store mostly sell items like thread, needles, buttons and the likes since Paete is a town of different crafts. We also have school supplies and gift items for sale.

As you can see, the store still needs a LOT of organizing. (my husband says everything will fix itself because he knows I'm an OC and hopes that I will clean it sooner or later -__- I hate you Cy).

We will also be selling some grocery items soon like canned goods, eggs, cooking oil, etc. Currently the only food we have are fruits from the farm in Alutay and Saray. These include bannanas (lots of them) pineapples, coconut, and sometimes lansones and rambutan - what ever is in season.

This is our sleeping quarters...

Which is all I'm gonna show you since the place is still a mess. Maybe a year from now it would FINALLY get CLEAN. Then I will proudly post pics here in my blog :)

Kainan in Paete, Laguna

Two days ago we decided to eat in a small cafe here in Paete, Laguna called 'Kainan'. My brother-in-law Cylinberg said they serve great food here, particularly their lugaw (rice gruel) and pancit (stir fried noodles).

I particularly like the design in the small cafe especially the cross stitched 'belen'.

I ordered 'tap-si-log' while my husband Cy tried their specialty 'lugaw'.

The lugaw was really, really good! Too bad the servings were a bit small. Come to think of it, almost all of the resto's, carinderias, cafeterias and other food stalls here have really small servings. I guess it's because the prices are low as well...

One Piece Fan

Nope, I didn't mean 'fan' of the anime 'One Piece', I meant a fancy fan made out of 1 piece of wood.

Yup, this fan is made out of only a SINGLE piece of wood, carved to make thin feather like strips which were spread apart to make the fan face.

Attached to the bigger fan is a smaller one, and all of it, including the chain, is made out of 1 piece of wood.

I really admire the craftsmanship of this unique work of art. :)

Pakil Church

We visited Pakil church last Nov. 29 while we were on our way to the locksmith in Sinuluan Laguna. I now have a copy of the keys to our house and pictures of this beautiful church. I have always wanted to visit Pakil church, but the church was always closed whenever we passed by before.

That day, I was finally able to take a look inside the church :D

Like Paete church, they also have paintings in wood panels.

It's times like this I wish I had a better camera :(

Life in Paeta Laguna

I have decided to turn this into a photo blog :)

if I find the time, will post the comics too, but for now, I would like to post pics here as I start my new life with my hubby here in Paete Laguna.

We got married last November 20 in Christ the King Parish Muzon, Taytay, Rizal, just a day before the feast of Christ the King.

For our honeymoon, we decided to go 'Bayan Hopping' in Laguna, my husband's hometown. He says he's been living in Paete for about 4 years now and was even born there but haven't really visited the nearby towns like Lumban, Pagsanhan, Cavinti, San Pablo, Liliw and the rest.

We planned to take a route from Paete, passing through  Kalayaan, then to Lumban, Pagsanhan, and Sta. Cruz to visit some relatives. From Sta. Cruz we would go to Pila, Calauan, and stay at San Pablo Laguna. On the second day we would go to Nagcarlan, Liliw, Majayjay, Luisiana, and to Cavinti, then back to Lumban and home again to Paete Laguna where we are currently staying.

We Started off on Nov. 24, but had to stop by at their farm in Alutay, Paete in the morning.

It was already past noon when we actually left for the trip. It has been an old tradition to visit old churches when going to new places. Our first stop was St. John the Baptist Church in Kalayaan Laguna.

Unfortunately, the church was closed :( Our next stop was Lumban Church. The town of lumban Laguna is famous for their native 'barong tagalog' and other clothes made of pina and jusi fiber.

Nezt, we passed by Pagsanjan church, famous for the tourist destination Pagsanjan falls. (1000 per person for a boat ride, no thanks)

Then to Sta Cruz Laguna where we were supposed to meet Cy's aunt, as well as some of my father's relatives. The problem was we couldn't find his aunt and instead, ended up visiting my cousin which we met accidentally.

It was already late when we left the town.

Sad to say, we didn't get to stop over at Pila and Calauan Laguna and had to go straight to San Pablo city to spend the night at Tahanan ni Aling Meding Hotel.

It was located just in front of the Sampaloc lake...

and is just a short distance to the Church.

On the way back home we we're not able to pass through the rest of the towns either, mainly because one of the bridges that connect Nagcarlan to Sta. Cruz was being repaired. We passed Cavinti then stopped at Exotic restaurant in Kalayaan before heading back home.

Once we get some free time, we'll go on another trip and hopefully, will meet out itinerary :)
Till then, I'll be visiting towns closest to my new home, Paete, Laguna.

The Search

posted the 1st comic in the site . . .

"The Search"

Please post comments here...
Sorry, I guess I won't be staying long after all...

. . .

well... THAT was what I was thinking BEFORE I actually tried using this site called Artician...

ok... looked promissing, nice view page with next/prev arrows for easy navigations and stuff, so even though I wasn't familiar with the program yet, I decided to try it out...

Problem is, as with deviant art, there were TOO MANY DAMN SUB CATEGORIES to choose from!
they had no bulk uploads (as far as I could tell) and no folder options for pictures as well...

Well, they DO have sets though, problem is, after placing pics in a set, the viewer goes right on to the picture in the next set...

so as usual, I couldn't use it for the comic site I was planning -___-

one more thing, once I placed/uploaded the pics, I couldn't find a way to rearrange the order in which the pages were viewed -__- and since the pages of the comic I uploaded got scrambled (in ways I couldn't imagine how), there was no way for the story to be understood by the readers -___-

Ok.... so I'm still stuck with the same problem....
I am still left with thinking of a way to turn this BLOG into a multi-story comic blog...

and I still haven't received any suggestions... :(

I will probly just place 1 comic title per page... problem is there are only 10 pages available...

will try this idea though.... right now...

Everyone Else Does it....

After posting several poems, mostly to de with love, and unrequited love at that, I think it's time for a change of topic...

I am, by nature, a person with a great sense of justice. It irks me to see injustice being done and can't sit still when I see someone doing something 'wrong' right in front of me. Be it dumping trash on the corridor, smoking in public places, eating inside the train or other petty things.

That's one of the reasons why I sometimes get into arguments with some of my friends. I just can't keep my mouth shut when I know that they or someone close to them are doing something legally or ethically wrong. But then again, isn't it our duty as a person and as a friend to do just that?
This is also the reason why I seldom watch the news.

Back in the late 90's, I wrote a short story entitled 'The Face in the Mirror' for an essay writing contest. Of course it was technically disqualified for not being an essay, but I didn't care since I just felt writing and passing it back then. It dealt about our young generations' angst against the present government and their habit of blaming their elders for the mistakes that have happened in the past, without them realizing that they themselves are also guilty for the sins of omission -- not doing the right thing. (I got a special price from one of the judges though, she said she was touched by the story.)

When you see someone being bullied, do you stand up for that person?
If you saw a child take small change from his or her parent's purse, would you just shrug, smile and say 'what a clever child'.
If you witnessed a crime, would you simply turn away?

Sad to say though, with all the 'wrong' all around us, nothing we say or do seem to make a difference anymore. People simply view them as something everybody else does, and thus, consider them normal, saying 'everyone else is doing it anyway'.

Just because everyone else does something 'wrong' does it justify it as 'right'?

If you know that something is inappropriate, would you still do it just because everyone else does?

Frustrations on Paper?

Yup.
I admit, most of the stuff I make are squishy love sick stuff  >.<

I myself don't understand why because I have never been really in love back when I was is high school. Sure there were a couple... ok, several crushes here and there (mostly celebrities, obviously) but no serious stuff. I was the type of person who thinks that being tied to someone would just be too much of a hassle.

Who wants to be tied up in some commitment when there are so many things you can do without some wet blanket tagging along and telling you how to behave?

Plus, all my money went to books, toys, junk food and other stuff I really enjoy :D
No planning for dates, no expensive gifts for that special someone, no flashy clothes and accessories to keep your partner interested. Nope all that stuff was nothing for me. I don't need em, just give me my books and my toys to play with and I'm a happy puppy.

So I guess all the romance I should have given to some guy all went to writing stories...
Thus the mushy stuff -__-

But hey, It's not only love poems that I write you know, I mean, I was even called 'psycho' once because of some of the gory things I drew and was even called 'William' after making a tragic 'Romeo and Juliet' like comic. gehehe...

Some of them are just for fun too, just like this short composition I wrote for a band story I was creating before...

~o~

I wake up late everyday
and spend the day by the tube
watchin' the world go round and round
watchin' time pass me by

By the tube
By the tube
By the tube

... from some couch potato who's head's been messed up too far by television
geheheh....

More poems from the Band in the poetry section :)
(mostly love songs)

Kap'rat'so'ng Utak

I've added the first 2 poems in the poetry section and realized I could only make 1 post for the whole page -__-
I decided to place the poems one by one and add short descriptions to it as I see fit.

Most of these stuff were written YEARS ago - way back when I was in high school so this is gonna be some helluva trip back to mem'ry lane...

hmm.... reminiscing the past now and then ain't that bad ^__^

Stuff to Ponder while doing (almost) Nothing

Still trying to figure out how best to make a comic book blog...
and thus I wasn't able to post anything for 2 days.

Actually one of the reasons behind me not posting is because of these work-at-home sites a friend shared to me recently. I am currently a bum thus I have lots of time to click stuff and get paid for it... hehehe
The pay's never that big though, but it's a way to past time...
I recently found one I actually enjoyed since I like to read, it's called 'Readbud' where you read articles and get to rate them.

Check it out if you you like...
www.readbud.com

Anyway, think I'll post some old stuff in the Poetry section first :D
I'll include the story behind it and other stuff I was into while I was writing them so just check them out at the poetry page.

enjoy!

An Introduction . . .

First off, let me tell you about myself. My friend had a point when she said that bloggers are vain, so let's get this over with.

My name is Gem Vecino. I have used several pen names which include Death, Shinoto Shrine (is that even a name?), Al or Psynoid Al, Bangag, and annaNmousse.

I am a member of the independent comic group called Okami-Kitsune since late 2001. Though the group is a little bit more underground right now, the members still meet every once in a while and are planning to release a new title in the (not so near) future.

I first started making komiks in 1990. It featured our dogs Lucky and Gingleas well s our childhood friends as the main characters and tackles issues like child abuse and animal cruelty. Now that I think of it, I never thought I could write something like that back then, I just thought it was 'fun'.

Lucky the Wonder Dog, 1990
It wasn't till mid '96 when I continued making more comics. It was in the boom of the Sailormoon anime series that I decided to turn a story (novel actually) I was writing into a comic book. It was called "Moonlight Eclipse". The story was about a secret organization of vigilantes with special powers who were all studying in a school called Tomoe University.

Moonlight Eclipse book II: Death and Death's Sword book 2 part 8

I have written most of my stories around that first one. All the characters are students of the said university and are either members of the secret organization or simple students in the school.

There are more or less 70 stories in my head, I think I've started about 30 of them... I think.... and finished less than half... ehehehe...

So what is this blog for exactly?

A friend said I could post my works here, so here I am!
I could at least tell myself that I HAVE to post it if people are actually reading them.
So.... only problem is how to post them in the first place LOL

will try posting shortly...

Welcome to p@n works

I can no longer recall how many times I've created a site, blog, or community network (or what ever they're called) just for one purpose -- to post my stories online.

Every time I do so I almost always either find something more important to do (usually work), or my pc or some other peripheral gets busted.

It's like heaven never intended me to post them online or maybe some bizarre hidden organization is stopping other people to read them O_o

Well, what ever the reason, this is and WILL be the new "p@n works" site featuring stories, artworks, comics and other crafts by yours truly.

This time I've got new determination (hopefully) and plenty of free time, so check back often as I post poems, stories, comic strips and artworks in days to come.
